WELCOME

Welcome to the Maryland Department of Transportation's (MDOT's) website for Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC).  This website is one of many important components in our approach to BRAC as we continue to share information on the creative visioning and careful planning underway at MDOT to accommodate BRAC growth.

BRAC encompasses the arrival of new residents, jobs, and national defense and security activities into Maryland by September, 2011 as a result of the Federally-established 2005 BRAC Commission’s decision to relocate several thousand jobs from outside the State to five Maryland military installations.  BRAC will bring to the State the myriad of benefits and challenges of providing, among many other things, the additional transportation infrastructure necessary to support BRAC, and of reaping the benefits of expansion without compromising Marylanders’ quality of life.

MDOT has taken a proactive approach in planning for the projected increase in demand on the transportation system as a result of BRAC.  We look forward to our role in support of our nation’s defense and security, and we are prepared to do everything possible to facilitate a successful BRAC transition.
