MDOT is responsible for building, operating and maintaining a safe and seamless transportation network that links Maryland with the rest of the country, and the world. This website serves as a gateway to all the services and opportunities that MDOT has to offer.
MDOT directs and oversees the planning, construction and operation of Maryland's highway, transit, maritime and aviation facilities, as well as the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. All five modes fall under the direction of the Transportation Secretary. They are funded by a common funding source, Maryland's Transportation Trust Fund. The Transportation Trust Fund is separate from the state's general fund with its revenues dedicated to operating Maryland's world-class transportation network.
This unique, streamlined approach provides the state's leadership with the ability to develop a coordinated and balanced approach to transportation. Under the direction of the Transportation Secretary, the five modal administrations work together, wherever possible, to assist each other in the development of a seamless transportation system designed to fuel Maryland's economy and enhance the quality of life of our citizens.
